Just Champion! Yorkshire's 33-Year Fight for their Cricketing Birthright
Just Champion! Yorkshire's 33-Year Fight for their Cricketing Birthright

David Bond

Yorkshire County Cricket Club have traditionally dominated cricket’s county championship since its official inception in 1890, winning it a record 29 times outright by 1968. But then came the leanest period in the county’s history as they struggled for success in English cricket’s blue riband competition. In their quest to regain the championship pennant, Yorkshire Cricket tore themselves apart with internal strife and political infighting. They also ended their policy of selecting only Yorkshire-born players to try to give themselves a chance of fighting on a level cricket pitch. But the years of controversy and internecine warfare were forgotten only when Yorkshire finally won the championship again in 2001.
Just Champion! Recounts the story of 33 years of turmoil as Yorkshire County Cricket Club sought to regain what they regarded as their cricketing birthright.
